Using Collaboration to Drive Optimal Capital Project Outcomes in Heavy Oil

We are in unchartered waters here in Alberta in 2020. For many years a situation of declining investor confidence has had an increasingly negative impact on capital spending, project starts as well as employment levels. Since then we have experienced an unprecedented crisis with COVID that has worsened the situation.

But if the truth is to be told, the forces of change were strong before the pandemic. In fact, we are on the brink of the next industrial revolution (4.0) characterized by an inexorable merger of technologies that is blurring the lines between the physical, digital, and biological worlds. It is forcing companies to reexamine the way they work. Many are joining the race to adapt and innovate their business models.

Moreover, the switch to alternative energy sources to meet emissions targets is an additional challenge (or opportunity) – in particular for the heavy oil industry. Practically speaking, in 2020, for CHOA members this means challenging the assumptions that operating or project delivery models are “fit for purpose” and quickly adapt them to survive and thrive. One response is to invest in
alternative project delivery and contracting models that use relationships and collaboration to manage complexity and create value. In the previous webinar entitled Driving Capital Project Outcomes in Heavy Oil, we introduced the practice of Collaborative Contracting and defined What it is and Why those in Heavy Oil should use it to optimize capital project outcomes.
Building on this, we are excited to present an extraordinary panel of practitioners who have applied various aspects of Collaborative Contracting in our industry.

Our expert panel will recount stories about their experiences and share valuable lessons learned. We will be discussing hands on experiences relating to:
How and when to implement integrated project and collaborative contracting methods
How to shift from traditional approaches to true collaboration;
How to confidently outline the “opportunity case” for collaboration; and
How to overcome barriers and drive positive change within your organization

At the end of the session, attendees will better understand how they could use these models to increase productivity, speed delivery, improve cost predictability, increase profits, and enjoy more collaborative working environments. Join us, connect and learn.
