Construction Owners Association of Alberta
AIT Scholarships
Created in 2002, the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) Scholarships are designed to recognize the excellence of Alberta apprentices in a trade or trainees in designated occupations, and to encourage recipients to complete their apprenticeship or occupational training programs.

There are over 325 AIT scholarships available. AIT scholarship recipients receive their funds when they attend their next period of technical training.

Construction Owners Association of Alberta is proud to support the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board with four scholarships:

Neil Tidsbury Apprenticeship Scholarship
Jeph Virture Apprenticeship Scholarship
Brian Bickley Apprenticeship Scholarship
Stephen Revay Apprenticeship Scholarship

The 2011 Recipients:

Neil Tidsbury Apprenticeship Scholarship - David A Hult, Carpenter

Jeph Virtue Apprenticeship Scholarship - Lucas McEwan, Powerline Technician

Brian Bickley Apprenticeship Scholarship - Eric Warkentin, Carpenter

Stephen Revay Apprenticeship Scholarship - Tyler Strautman, Carpenter

Tyler Strautman first became interested in carpentry by helping his dad with renovation projects and spending time in his grandfather's workshop in Pigeon Lake, Alberta. Everything about carpentry from the diversity of skills it required to even the smell of sawdust drew his interest to the trade. As a believer in education, Tyler enrolled in NAIT's carpentry program which gives hands-on skills in the design and construction of wood structures. He likes the diversity of the profession from creating crown molding to building large structures. He hopes someday to own his own building company.

As the recipient of COAAs 2011 Stephen Revay Apprenticeship Scholarship, Tyler used his scholarship for his second year of study which allowed him to focus on his carpentry skills while easing the costs associated with his education. Through its commitment to the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Scholarships, COAA is helping to support the next generation of skilled tradespeople in Alberta.
