Many construction owners employ contract personnel for a wide range of activities, from administrative support to construction, equipment repair, and maintenance. Some contractor's activities, because they involve work around or in equipment handling hazardous materials, have the potential to place either a contractor's and/or a company's personnel at risk from release of hazardous materials.
With the continued use of contractors (and in some cases increased contractor involvement), it becomes important for effective management systems to be in place to minimize the potential for safety incidents to occur.
