Best Practices XVI was held at the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton on May 20 -21, 2008 and featured state-of-the-art discussions and workshops on some of the most important issues facing the construction industry today.
We’ve listened to delegate feedback from last year, and we tried a few new things this year.
- Electronic Registration – Our new registration system opened March 3, 2008 – an e-mail was distributed with details on how to help facilitate your Best Practices experience.
- Expanded networking opportunities – more time was designated at breaks and lunch to renew acquaintances and meet new contacts.
- Training opportunities – this year, our Benchmarking Committee offered it’s Benchmarking Training Course on the afternoon of May 20 – attendees were invited to learn more about the program, or enter one of their company’s projects into the database.
We were also very pleased to welcome back former NASA astronaut Mike Mullane as our keynote guest. A lot had changed in heavy industrial construction in Alberta during the six years since Mike was last here – but, did we continue to make some of the same mistakes we did in the past, or have we learned the lessons necessary to succeed on the road ahead. We had an opportunity to hear Mike’s message as he examined where construction is headed in the future.
Companies were also encouraged to nominate their company’s best practices in safety and workforce development for a Best Practices Award. We offered the opportunity for your company to participate in the Best Practices Conference Sponsorship Program again this year – a great way to publicly show your support to more than 500 key construction industry stakeholders for future best practices initiatives.
